Being a Capricorn: being fully and uniquely YOU

pl03_wa

Continuing the Saturn investigations, I’ve been closely examined some Capricorns. What I have found amazing about Capricorn sun sign is the fact they know they are one of a kind. Basically each of us is one of a kind โ€“ each of us has a unique combination of qualities and defects, abilities and flaws that are uniquely theirs. But only Capricorns are basically quite fully aware or their own unique combinations and actually live according to it. they don’t get themselves into things they are not positive to be good at, and they put themselves strongly into what they can do and what they are good at. They apply this attitude to basically everything, including work, relationships, and even the ways they manage their everyday recourses.

Fact is, a person can not be aware of who they are unless they know themselves. Knowing yourself means knowing also what is you and what is not you: where you came from, how your origins affect you, where you want to be and who you want to be, who you already are, what are the things you can change in yourself and what you can’t change. Knowing all these things means knowing who you are, also means being aware you are one of a kind, which also means, hopefully, understanding that if you are one of a kind you have the burden and the chance to be fully who you meant to be, in this world.
So Capricorn is, basically, a sign of a burden and a chance, at the same time, of being who you are fully (or using what you have fully). Those of you who know the 10th house meaning and the meanings of Saturn know that both these elements represent something similar as well: th 10th house is who you come to be, while Saturn is what restricts you and also what teaches you your most important lessons in life (here you can read some more about Saturn and how it works within our charts and life).

ย

Capricorn astrology compatibility

Thatโ€™s why Capricorns are always such important people in our lives. They show us a way to fulfill our potentials by giving an example of how they do it themselves. If you examine closely a capricorn’s life you can see they usually smartly use whatever resources they have and juggle nicely between them, in a way that helps them maintain all their resources at hand reach and gain more and more resources. Even a poor and inadequate Capricorns show this ability / quality as their lives getting more and more restricting for them.
When Capricorns feel wealthy they like to match with partners who have qualities as a Leo, Taurus, Libra, and sometimes Cancer or Aries.
A partner with Leo qualities is a confident and proud partner, someone who knows their worth and needs recognition for what and who they are. A partner with Taurus qualities is a stable and reliable partner that likes to maintain and preserve what they have and what and who they are. A Taurus partner is a partner of loyalty โ€“ not only to their spouse but to their personality, tradition, past and also dreams and fears as well. A partner with Cancer qualities is somewhat the same, only a Cancer partner is also dramatic and moody sometimes, and likes to rely on Capricorns, take care of them and share their private and fantasy worlds. Cancers as Capricorns are aware of who they are and what they have, therefore in astrology this combination considers to be on the positive side. Aries people are great achievers and like being admired and looked upon, therefore are suitable partners for Capricorns who feel capable.

Inadequate Capricorns or Capricorns who are lacking luck or in a somewhat low in wealth period would match with partners who have qualities as a Pisces, Cancer, Virgo, and people they can use no matter their sun or other influential signs on their map (for example, people who socially have higher position then theirs, or are richer).

A partner with Pisces qualities is a giving and self effacing partner that would give themselves to Capricorns for the sake of “Togetherness”. A Cancer partner can be somewhat the same. A Virgo tend to be devoted and in the service of the Capricorn, too.

What does Saturn, the great tutor, teach us?

220px-Inverted_pentacle

These days are Capricorns’ birthdays, so I’d like to dedicate this post to Saturn, Capricorn’s ruler in astrology. I’d like to focus on the tricky idea of Saturn as “the great tutor” โ€“ it’s astrological nickname nowadays.

I’ve been trying to figure Saturn since the beginning of this millennium. Back then, I had him visiting my 1st house, not nataly but as a Gemini: all Geminies had Saturn in the 1st cause Saturn was moving into Gemini and stayed there for about 2.5 years.

Nowadays, for Geminies, Saturn is dealing with our everyday, habits, work, health and service house โ€“ the 6th.

What are you, Saturn?

Saturn is the restrictions and hardship planet. It relates in astrology to “heavy” stuff: duty, obligations, restrictions, inhibitions, guilt and outside limits, but it also forms the ability of one to work and build for oneself, to plan ahead and to form something in one’s life.ย  Before the concept of Saturn as a tutor, it’s being experienced personally and interpreted astrologically as a giver of restrictions and hardships.

The “new age” attitude puts Saturn, along with Chiron, as some kind of “chance givers” โ€“ when we are being forced to deal with those two planets (either in their placements in our personal natal chart or in their transits into the signs and houses)we get an “opportunity”: Saturn gives the opportunity to know ourselves and our limits (as “doing inner work” and “digging inside our real abilities and karma and self” knowing) while Chiron gives the opportunity for “healing” (in quite the same “spiritually-development” ways).

Neither of these concepts is the whole truth. Saturn is neither the chance giver only nor the great hardship pusher only. It’s not a nice opportunity to get rid of unusefull things we cling on to but it’s also not the planet of the ever lasting debt. It’s both, and it is also a great tutor, as long as one knows the limits of the “lessons” they are going through.

Saturn carnations in History of Astrology

Actually, if we think of Saturn “image” or “persona”, we see, that until the new age it was perceived by astrologers as some really scary monster (this link is to David Bowie song scary monsters โ€“ Bowie is a Capricorn and a very interesting saturanian figure) or as a planet of duty, debt and heavy responsibilities, including the “debt” humanity owes to god as the giver of life, therefore it was also connected with death, as well as marriage, the church, high status, the law. Judaism, the first religion from which Christianity and Islam were derived, is also known to be under the mark of Saturn and the sign of Capricorn. During the last decades, Saturn have become the “great tutor”, as part of a general approach of converting “hardships” forced from the skies (i.e., Christian and religious concepts) into “privilege” of learning and knowing something about ourselves (i.e., new age perceptions, self-development and spiritual concepts).

from being the evil, even devilish face of astrology, Saturn has become some tough but yet nice guy: a guy that all we need to do in order to be able to deal with it is accepting his authority upon us โ€“ sort of like a father figure. But here lies the great mistake and misunderstanding of the great tutor. This authority is tricky, deceiving and sometimes even leading astray: the lessons Saturn wants to teach us is not the lesson of authority but the lesson of knowing our limits from within. Its not “what is it in our lives that limits or restrict us” โ€“ its “how we negotiate it and manage through it” and “where are our inner limits and inhibitions lie”. The negotiation itself and the knowing of the whereabouts of our limits are both the lessons of Saturn. Some of us need to learn to demand our most basic rights, while others need to learn not to force their own will upon others, or to take into account also other’s rights and wills.

What can we learn from Saturn?

So the Saturn way in our lives is the way of a real tutor โ€“ a one that knows just how much he doesn’t know. A real tutor knows there’s nothing he can teach his students or practitioners โ€“ all they have to know, they must learn themselves. The real tutor, therefore, ask questions without knowing the answers. Not like a quiz or a trivia game, where there is 1 possible answer to any given question, the answers to the questions and dilemmas we face while Saturn is involved in our lives are many, and the right answer is the one suits most to our resources: our character, abilities, limits, restrictions, atc. In order to measure all our resources correctly we need to be realistic and to know ourselves, without fear and without wishful thinking. Those areas (measurement, resources, realism, fear and disillusion) are all being ruled by Saturn. This is his harsh realism and those are the “lessons” we learn throughout our lives.

Example of the influences of Saturn position in Natal Chart: Saturn in the 7th house

The place (house and sign) where Saturn is presence in your natal chart is where you will feel this need, force, tendency or obsession the most. Another option for the function of Saturn in the natal chart is the function of guilt. Again, depending on the placement of Saturn (house and sign) it will indicate the areas in life where you tend to feel guilty and where guilt, over-responsibility and doubts are most common, sometimes leaving you too overwhelmed with burden and therefore unable to act.

For example: Saturn in 7th house in Scorpio will make you super aware of the give-and-take aspects of every partnership, including love relations. You might have a constant feeling of being used by others or using others, and you are always aware of your part in the process of bonding. Or, you are very much aware of the realistic limitations that connect or separate you from others: you never find yourself being carried away as you always aware of Everything.

Such position of Saturn in Scorpio in the 7th house may also indicate a person who aims to a very deep and meaningful bonding in partnerships, and at the same time seeing every restriction that holds him from being able to create such bonding. The result, many times, is difficulties in relationships, especially deep and meaningful relationships. Even people who are happily married may feel with this position restricted by, and very much obliged to, their deep and meaningful relationships.

something nice for dessert: Jack Sparrow as a Saturn-Mercury combination

One very nice example of what I was pointing here about Saturn is the Johnny depp role as Captain Jack Sparrow in “Pirate of the Caribbeans”. Jack always negotiates his position and always tries to take, have and posses more then he gives. He always tries, quite blatantly, to maintain an upper-hand position. He doesn’t care destroying others lives to maintain his own privileges. And quite often, he pays a heavy price for that โ€“ including in his own life (the 2nd movie).

Jack is also quite a mercurial type: he talks himself out of almost every situation and improvises his escaping routs . “does he plan it all in advance or does he improvise?” โ€“ the navy commander asks the navy captain when, again, Jack escapes under their nose in a brilliant spontaneous and non predicted act. it’s a good question:ย  it seems as if in Sparrow’s case, as in some of the Capricorns and other Saturenian types, the plan is to improvise, and the improvisation is well planed. This is also the tense between both signs and planets โ€“ Gemini-mercury and Capricorn-Saturn: the former always has a plan, the latter never has a plan, it only improvises.

Johnny depp himself is a Gemini sun (ruled by mercury) with Capricorn moon (ruled by Saturn) so this role represents his main natal planets very well.

Oppositions in astrology

cross-of-the-zodiac

Because of the either-or neither-nor nature of the opposition, itโ€™s hard to solve it. You canโ€™t integrate the two opposed elements into one distinctive and dominant energy. You canโ€™t dismiss one of them completely. Theres not much you can do, besides being very much aware of the power of the opposition itself. It is very much an illusion, and should be treated as illusions, delusion or deceit: with lots of suspicious respect. โ€œI donโ€™t believe it, though I know the impact it has upon meโ€ โ€“ thatโ€™s what you should tell yourself when dealing with opposition influence if you find this influence hard and complicating. But many times an opposition integrates well in the personality and is not experienced as a problem at all.

Opposition, so they say, is one of the hardest aspects found in natal charts.

Oppositions may appear in Synastry also but their meaning is different.

In a Natal Chart, Opposition is possible as long as planets occupy the houses on both sides of the chart: east-west or north-south. The reason, of course, is that two planets need to have a 180ยฐ angle between them in order to form the opposition aspect.

(by the way, in case you were wondering: the angles โ€“ 180ยฐ (opposition), 60ยฐ (trine), 90ยฐ (square), 120ยฐ (sextile) atc โ€“ are measured from the center of the chart, i.e. planet earth. Meaning a square (90ยฐ), for example, between Chiron and sun, for example, is formed when both chiron and the sun forms a 90ยฐ angle accordance the center of the chart)

What I have found is that the opposition itself, such as many other aspects in astrology, is not necessarily hard. It depends very much on balancing agents, or other aspects and planets on the chart.

First, charts which are loaded with oppositions tend to be harder for the person then one single opposition. It’s almost like the person has developed a special sensitivity to conflicts and dichotomy and have become throughout life very touchy to every situation or feeling involves one of these characteristics: conflict and/or dichotomy. That’s because of the nature of the opposition aspect/s: it makes an either-or neither-nor attitude and finally, an either-or neither-nor reality and mental environment.

Usually, charts with no oppositions at all are more likely to have conjunctions, which are aspects that are experienced as much more natural and less conflictual then the opposition (and the square), even though they might cause troubles as much.

Opposition considers an external angle, meaning it’s energy is being direct outwards. It is the most outwards-oriented angle; therefore it’s hard influence, if there is any, is not being accumulated within the person but rather manifests itself in the open โ€“ either in actions, reactions or external dialogue. Finally, It says to sooth and ease the personality and moderate the energy of both planets involved.

Because of the either-or neither-nor nature of the opposition, it’s hard to solve it. You can’t integrate the two opposed elements into one distinctive and dominant energy. You can’t dismiss one of them completely. Theres not much you can do, besides being very much aware of the power of the opposition itself. It is very much an illusion, and should be treated as illusions, delusion or deceit: with lots of suspicious respect. “I don’t believe it, though I know the impact it has upon me” โ€“ that’s what you should tell yourself when dealing with opposition influence if you find this influence hard and complicating. But many times an opposition integrates well in the personality and is not experienced as a problem at all.

The problem, as I wrote previously, is when one has lots of oppositions. It’s sort of like there is no “neutral” consciousness to say “I don’t believe it” or “I do/dont want it” โ€“ all of it is blurred and fogged by the many oppositions influence.

What Aspects in the Natal Chart are favorable for studying Astrology

stargazing_t470

well this is my new blog. I’m very much into astrology since my late childhood but for the last 2 years I’ve been taking it much more seriously and started learning and practicing astrology.

Astrology is all about discovering and learning.

In the natal chart, some of the more favorable aspects for astrology are these (I have all of them):

Some intellectual planets in the 8th house (Uranus is the most favorable, Mercury is good too);

Moon in Aquarius;

Virgo or Chiron qualities and emphasis (Aspects).

All these aspects are good for every kind of learning, inquiring and investigating, but specifically to Astrology โ€“ and specifically the combination of the three.

Why is that?

Traditionally, Uranian (Uranus-related) and Aquarian (Aquarius-related) aspects are linked with Astrology, because of the vast and also deep grasp of Uranus and it’s useful detachment. Also the “flashes” of knowledge related to Aquarius-Uranus are actually this deep, vast, detached comprehension: the ability to see something from afar, to see it thoroughly and to be fully aware of other aspects as well (unlike Virgo or Chiron-like aspects, that limits the preciseness to small details without seeing the big picture).

The Chiron-Virgo aspects contribute to the preciseness needed in studying astrology.ย  Here I have an interesting example: many Pisces, for instance, are keen to Astrology. Most of them love the intuition needed for understanding astrology and the spiritual practice itself. But few of them actually stick to it for the long run. The reason is the Pisces-Virgo axis: while Pisces are being impressed and “feel” things around then (people, ideas, moods, theories) โ€“ Virgo “learns”: methodically, systematically and thoroughly. It doesn’t mean Virgos know more then Pisces do โ€“ it only means they know it more skillfully. so all you Pisceans, don’t give up – just stick to it even when it appears full of details and almost no “gut feelings” at all.

And about theย 8th house – it’s the investigation house, the one that shows were one tends to deepen their interest, curiosity and also some of their libidinal energy. Not only where but also how. Presence ofย  “intellectual” planets, such as Mercury and Uranus, emphasis the tendency to do the 8th house work in an intellectual, investigative and analytical way, which contributes to the studying process itself.
